2006–2007 Freightliner Columbia recall: suspension
⚠️ What's wrong
On certain trucks equipped with arvinmeritor front axle assemblies, the front spindle nut may be over-tightened causing preload on the front wheel bearings which may lead to premature bearing wear.
💥 The risk
If rapid bearing wear is allowed to progress, the front wheel assembly may separate from the vehicle and cause a crash without prior warning.
🔧 The fix
Dealers will inspect the front hub installation for correct bearing adjustment. If the bearing adjustment is incorrect, the front wheel bearings will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on january 22, 2007. Owners may contact freightliner at 1-800-547-0712.
Is the fix free? Yes. Safety recall repairs are free at any authorized dealer under federal law, including parts and labor. (Vehicles more than 15 years old when the recall was announced can be excluded, but most manufacturers still fix them.)
