2006–2011 Cottrell Trailer recall: powertrain & transmission
⚠️ What's wrong
Cottrell is recalling all models of cottrell trailers, model year 2006 through 2011, equipped with meritor axles that contain the fag brand bearing system. The bearing system has exhibited low durability life in certain vehicle applications.
💥 The risk
Prolonged use of the system in these applications CAN result in the degradation of the bearing grease, thereby potentially resulting in a bearing failure and subsequent wheel end fire.
🔧 The fix
Meritor is handling the owner notification and remedy for this campaign. Please see meritors recall (NHTSA no. 11E-015). Meritor will perform the repairs free of charge. Owners may contact meritor's ontrac performance plus call center at 1-866-668-7221.
Is the fix free? Yes. Safety recall repairs are free at any authorized dealer under federal law, including parts and labor. (Vehicles more than 15 years old when the recall was announced can be excluded, but most manufacturers still fix them.)
